Dermal filler correction is a procedure to address issues resulting from previous dermal filler injections, such as asymmetry, overfilling, lumpiness, or undesirable aesthetic outcomes.
The correction usually involves the injection of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid-based fillers, thus reversing their effects. For non-hyaluronic acid fillers, alternative methods such as massage, steroid injections, or surgical removal may be used. We only use hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers at our clinic.
The procedure typically starts with a thorough consultation, understanding patient goals, and creating a tailored treatment plan. A Patch test will be carried out and the patient will be monitored for a period of time. If the results from the patch test are fine we will proceed to clean the target area, and a topical anaesthetic may be applied. The corrective substance is then carefully injected into the affected areas. The process is relatively quick, often completed within minutes.
This treatment may be suitable if you’re dissatisfied with the results of previous dermal filler treatments, have experienced complications, or simply wish to revert to your pre-filler appearance.
Post-treatment, minor swelling or bruising may occur but typically resolves within a few days. Most patients can resume their routine activities shortly after correction.
Results can be seen shortly after the filler dissolves, with full effects visible once any swelling subsides. Maintenance may not be needed if the goal is complete reversal; however, further adjustments can be made if desired.
Risks include allergic reactions, bruising, infection, and uneven dissolution of the filler. Careful patient selection by our medical professional for the treatment minimises these risks.
Cost varies depending on the extent of correction needed. A personalised consultation will provide specific pricing and an individualised treatment plan. We've streamlined our pricing for your convenience, as detailed in the following price list.
Dermal filler correction is a valuable option for those seeking to address undesirable effects from previous HA dermal filler treatments. It's a specialised procedure that, when performed by our experienced medical professional, can significantly improve the aesthetic outcome with minimal risks.
Reversal treatment for dermal fillers, often involve the use of an enzyme to dissolve hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Here's a list of conditions that may preclude the use of this enzyme for filler reversal:
1. Allergy to hyaluronidase or bee stings: If patients have a known allergy to hyaluronidase or bee venom, they should not receive hyaluronidase as bee venom contains hyaluronic acid.
2. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The safety of hyaluronidase has not been established during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and therefore, its use is not recommended.
3. Skin infections or inflammation: Active skin infections or inflammation near the treatment site could be exacerbated by the procedure.
4. Autoimmune disorders: Patients with autoimmune conditions may have a higher risk of side effects or complications.
5. Medications affecting immunity: Medications that weaken the immune system may increase the risk of infection or poor healing after the procedure.
6. Previous adverse reactions: A history of adverse reactions to hyaluronidase or fillers means caution or avoidance is warranted.
7. Blood clotting disorders: Similar to dermal filler treatments, patients with a history of blood clotting disorders should avoid reversal treatments unless deemed safe by a medical professional.
8. Mental health conditions impacting treatment expectations: Patients who have unrealistic expectations or a misperception of treatment necessity may be contraindicated for psychological reasons.
Always consult with a qualified medical practitioner for an individual assessment and recommendations before considering or undergoing reversal treatment for dermal fillers. This list is not exhaustive and is for informational purposes only.
Pre-Treatment Advice:
1. Consultation: Schedule a thorough consultation with our practitioner. Discuss your expectations, any previous filler treatments, and your medical history, including allergies and medications.
2. Medications: Avoid blood-thinning and anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements (e.g., Vitamin E, fish oil, St. John’s Wort) for at least a week prior to the treatment to minimize bruising.
3. Skin Products: Stop using any products containing retinol, glycolic acid, or other strong chemicals on the treatment area two days beforehand.
4. Health: Postpone treatment if you have any active skin infections, such as cold sores or acne, near the treatment area.
5. Hydration: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment, as hydrated skin may better respond to filler treatment.
6. Alcohol: Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours before your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising.
7. Eating: Have a light meal before your treatment to prevent nausea and lightheadedness.
8. Makeup: Come to your appointment without makeup to reduce the risk of infection.
Post-Treatment Advice:
1. Do Not Touch: Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for at least twelve hours following your treatment to minimise the risk of infection.
2. Ice Packs: Apply a cold pack to the treatment area to alleviate swelling or bruising. Do not apply ice directly to the skin; wrap it in a clean paper towel.
3. Activity Limitation: Avoid strenuous activities or excessive heat exposure (like saunas or steam rooms) for 24-48 hours after treatment.
4. Sleeping Position: Sleep with your head elevated and try not to sleep on the treated area for the first night after treatment.
5. Follow-Up Care: Book a follow-up appointment as advised by our medical practitioner to assess results and determine if further correction is necessary. You will need to wait a minimum of 2 weeks from the correction date for re-treatment if you wish to do so.
6. Signs of Complications: Monitor the treated area for signs of infection or complications and contact our clinic immediately if you notice anything unusual.
7. Alcohol and Blood Thinners: Continue to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for at least 24 hours after treatment.
8. Hydration: Keep hydrated to support the healing process.
9. Sun Protection: Protect the treatment area from prolonged sun exposure and apply SPF as directed by our practitioner.
10. Makeup: Wait up to 24 hours before applying makeup to the treated area to avoid infection.
It is crucial to have personalised advice from our medical practitioner on day of correction based on your individual needs and correction procedure performed.
Hyalase Treatment: Enzymatic correction of dermal filler with fast-acting Hyaluronidase. Dissolves hyaluronic acid for dermal filler adjustments or reversal.
Reversal treatment will always require a face too face consultation with a medical prescriber. A patch test is always carried out. We do not treat anyone under the age of eighteen years and identification will always be checked by a member of our team.
